Position Summary Information

General Information

Do you have a passion for the performing arts or have you ever wondered how a dance, concert or theatrical show comes together? Current JMU students can have the opportunity to work alongside theatre and entertainment professionals and assist in a wide variety of tasks to support student, faculty and professional performances at the Forbes Center and Wilson Auditorium.

The College of Visual and Performing Arts presents over 300 performances per year at seven venues; from student recitals, theatre and dance performances to professional touring artists the college is dedicated to providing a platform for the arts in Harrisonburg.

Duties and Responsibilities

Students will participate in setting up and maintaining technical lighting, sound, stage and rigging equipment for productions. Students will also have the opportunity to work on the production itself by working as a stage manger, lighting operator or by working backstage during a performance.

Shift times and durations will vary depending on the needs of the venues and the schedule of the performances happening throughout the year.

Summer employment is available.

Qualifications

Interest in theatre and the performing arts. Student employees must be reliable, eager to learn new things, be able to understand and follow directions and display a willingness to participate as part of a team.

Conditions of Employment

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
