General Information

The Student Activities and Involvement Office is a highly active office on the James Madison University (JMU) campus and seeks a professional who can share our enthusiasm and energy for working with student groups. The Coordinator of Organization Development will coordinate major programs and events for JMU’s 350+ recognized organizations and provide administrative and educational leadership to the advising and development of student organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Create, implement and support educational programs which utilize student organizations as avenues for student learning and personal development including risk management education, hazing education, overall organizational development and officer transitions.
- Responsible for designing and implementing educational programs (Risk Management/Hazing/Officer Transition/Goal Setting) and providing administrative support and services that aid students, organizations and advisers in all aspects of organizational development.
- Responsible for the management of the following website:, organization management system (Collegiate Link).
- Oversee and manage the club recognition program for new groups at James Madison University.
- Coordinate major programs and events for JMU’s 350+ recognized student organizations (i.e. Student Organization Nights and LeadershipU).
- Provide administrative and educational leadership to the advising and development of student organizations.
- Supervise one graduate assistant and complete all evaluations in a timely fashion.
- Manage the Club House Resource Center for all recognized organizations and supervise five student employees.
- Serve as the primary advisor to the Outriggers, a peer education leadership group that is housed within Student Activities and Involvement.
- Serve as a member of the Student Activities and Involvement Leadership Team and provide guidance and advisement for overall Student Activities programs when requested.
- Prepare annual zero-based budget requests related to all areas of responsibility.
- Participate in departmental and divisional staff meetings and serve on various Student Affairs and university committees.
- Continuously participate in professional development as outlined by the University Unions guidelines.


Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in Higher Education and/or Student Personnel preferred. One – three years’ experience in a Student Activities Office preferred; experience can include assistantship experience.

- Be able to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Follow through on tasks.
- Have the ability to prioritize and organize work.
- Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Have the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office.

Preferred qualifications include:
- Event planning experience.
- Supervision experience.
- Group facilitation and presentation experience.
