Position Summary Information

General Information

The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts has an opening for two (2) Student House Managers for this academic year leading into the following academic year.

Duties and Responsibilities

Students work an average of 12 to 16 hours per week. Students report 1.5 hours prior to weeknight evening performances (7:30 or 8:00 p.m.); and 1.5 hours prior to weekend matinee (3:00 p.m.) and evening (7:30 or 8:00 p.m.) Special event hours may vary.

House Managers work until the end of every performance. Work shifts are shared between a team of House Managers. Students must be able to work shifts every weekend as needed. Work shifts vary from 2.5 hours to 6 hours.

Student House Managers play a vital role in making the Forbes Center experience an enjoyable one for audiences and performers alike.

House Managers act as the Center’s front-of- house liaison with audiences for five state-of-the-art performance venues.

They prepare the public spaces for audience arrival, alerting the housekeeping crew if there are cleaning issues. They train ushers to greet patrons, distribute programs and audio enhancement devices, scan tickets at the door, escort patrons to their reserved seating, provide information about the facility, and ensure that “VIP” and handicapped patrons are properly seated. They are also called upon to control unauthorized access to the venues, help facilitate latecomer seating, enforce theatre policies and direct the safe and timely evacuation of the audience in the case of an emergency. They coordinate with the stage manager for ever show, the box office staff regarding special seating issues, and concessions. They provide group event set up assistance for pre-or-post show events in the venue. They also prepare house count, and performance reports, and manage the lost and found.

Dress code: Business attire.
