General Information

The Counseling Programs at James Madison University are seeking an exceptional Counselor Educator to join the award‐winning faculty in the Department of Graduate Psychology. Our programs include two CACREP‐accredited master’s‐level programs—Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling—as well as a Ph.D. in Counseling and Supervision. The full‐time (10 month), tenure track position will start in August, 2018, and will be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching and supervising students, contributing across programs as a committed mentor, and serving on and chairing research projects and dissertation committees. The candidate will have opportunities to be integrally involved in all the Counseling Programs, as well as opportunities for professional development and leadership roles. The successful candidate will share our philosophy that cultivating the personhood of the student-counselor is corollary to academic instruction. We therefore seek a candidate committed to joining and fostering a culture that promotes both the personal growth and professional development of our students.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will possess a doctorate degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP‐accredited program and be a Licensed Professional Counselor (or license eligible) in Virginia. The ability to document two or more years of teaching and service within a master’s or doctoral program is preferred. A strong identity as a counselor educator with an interest in program leadership as well as teaching and mentoring students at the master’s and doctoral level is important. Evidence of strong clinical skills, as well as ability to teach a variety of core courses at the master’s and doctoral level, is essential.

Criminal Background Check

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
