Position Summary Information

General Information

James Madison University (JMU) is currently recruiting for a creative, self-motivated Web Developer to help support JMU’s current web infrastructure. This position will support end user publishing to university web servers using the JMU Content Management System (Cascade Server) and also some development of miscellaneous web applications that support the main university website.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include supporting PERL and Microsoft ASP/.NET based CGI applications, developing front-end AJAX / javascript / xhtml and css for JMU websites; developing content within the JMU Content Management System via XML, XSLT and Velocity script; evaluating and developing accessible web based content; and keeping up-to-date on current web publishing standards and guidelines.

Qualifications

Competitive candidates should possess:

- Web publishing skills (HTML5, XHTML, CSS, XML, XSLT etc.) and ability to program Javascript using Jquery
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards (Section 508, WAI, WCAG) and web development standards (W3C)
- The ability to communicate effectively with technical and functional staff both orally and in writing
- The ability to work well within a team environment and communicate effectively with non-technical end-users is essential
- Experience with web-based development languages particularly PERL, ASP/.NET, and/or experience with CGI programming is preferred. The ideal candidate would also have mobile application development experience.
- Experience developing pages with Cascade Server Content Management System would be ideal
- Knowledge of application development / database querying (SQL and PL/SQL), Web Services, Java/JSP development experience and writing LDAP queries is a plus
