Position Summary Information

General Information

Assist with the supervision, management, hiring, training and evaluation of Member Services Manager and Assistant student staff. Assist in maintaining and managing services and operations in the UREC Welcome Center, Equipment Center and UPARK Gatehouse.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Facility supervision and operational responsibilities for the 278,515 sq/ft University Recreation Center and satellite facilities on a rotating basis (weekends); including student staff and participant service.
2. Provide leadership and staff development for the Member Services student employees. Responsibilities include hiring, training and evaluating over 45 staff members. This GA will assist in maintaining and managing the UREC Welcome Center and Equipment Center as well as the University Park Gatehouse. Other duties include overseeing equipment inventory, locker and towel service contracts, and alumni memberships.
3. Be an active member of the UREC team through representation on various committees and attendance at required meetings, professional development opportunities and special events.
4. Familiarity with operation of recreation and/or the hospitality/service industry.
5. Desire to positively impact students with an emphasis on professional and personal development.
6. Staff leadership and management experience
7. Bachelor’s Degree required. Degree in Recreation, Management or related field, preferred
8. First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, JMU BBP, required.

Qualifications

-Bachelors Degree required.
-Acceptance into graduate program.
-First Responder (CPR, First Aid, AED, BBP certifications)
(James Madison University offers a Masters Degree concentration in Campus Recreation.)

Conditions of Employment

Students may apply to a graduate assistantship prior to being accepted into a graduate program. However, to be eligible to receive an assistantship upon entry into a graduate program, the following criteria must be met:


  • The student must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program. Students who are provisionally accepted will not be eligible until they achieve conditional or unconditional acceptance into their program.

  • The students must have an official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • After receiving an assistantship, the student must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA in order to retain or reapply for the assistantship.

These are minimum criteria. Graduate program coordinators have the right to impose additional criteria if they see fit.
