General Information

The Facilities Engineering and Construction Department at James Madison University is accepting applications for a Sustainability Analyst.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Sustainability Analyst will provide support to the department by coordinating efforts to develop, maintain and enhance environmental stewardship and related activities. The successful candidate will work closely with Facilities personnel on tracking and developing solutions to meet environmental stewardship goals such as energy and water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and waste. This position will be responsible for collecting, comprehending and analyzing technical data and generating written reports, and will serve as the outreach public point of contact for the department. Other duties will be assigned as they relate to the Facilities Management’s efforts towards environmental and sustainability related activities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have the ability to write technical reports and plans; experience in energy conservation, benchmarking and auditing concepts; and the ability to analyze large data sets and make independent decisions. Experience writing narratives for publication and for use in applications for grants, awards, etc. is highly desired.

Other qualifications include:
- Demonstrated knowledge of data sets, calculating, analyzing and communicating energy or emission-related metrics.
- Ability to make independent decisions and demonstrate a high level of initiative and proactive approaches to problem-solving.
- General knowledge of a wide range of environmental and sustainability metrics related to energy, greenhouse gas emissions, recycling and waste.
- Attention to detail, organization and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated self-starter, analytical skills with ability to use strong problem-solving strategic thinking and project coordination skills to organize information.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to create presentations using PowerPoint or other software, develop advanced spreadsheets along with strong math skills and the ability to perform accurate calculations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills – ability to effectively communicate information in a clear manner, both in writing and verbally, ability to proofread documents and calculations, and ability to follow instructions.
- A degree in engineering, sustainability, environmental science, public administration, writing, journalism or related technical field is preferred.
