General Information

The Department of Health Professions, College of Health and Behavioral Studies, James Madison University, is seeking a visionary individual with academic leadership experience for the position of Director of the Dietetics Program. This position is a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant / Associate Professor rank. The Program Director reports to the Academic Unit Head for Health Professions. The Dietetics Program is one of five programs within the Department of Health Professions. The Program Director will work collaboratively with others in Athletic Training, Health Services Administration, Occupational Therapy and the Physician Assistant Studies program within the department, as well as with other departments and schools within the College. The desired start date is July 1, 2018. The successful candidate will join a strong and engaged faculty at one of the nation’s outstanding public universities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as director for an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and will teach undergraduate courses in the DPD and graduate courses in an MS degree program. The successful candidate will also participate in curriculum management and updating, advise undergraduate and graduate students, direct graduate student research and participate in scholarly activity and service at the departmental, college and university levels.


A doctoral degree in nutrition or a related area and RD/RDN credential are both required. The successful candidate will have diverse experience in several areas of dietetics; special consideration will be given to candidates with clinical experience. The successful candidate should possess leadership experience and administrative skills in managing programs and experience with ACEND accreditation procedures. A track record of excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, professional development and service to the profession are required. The successful candidate should also possess a commitment to interprofessional education and student engagement, adapt to the trends and forces facing the dietetics profession and have a dynamic vision for preparing dietetics professionals.
