Position Summary Information

General Information

The Office of Human Resources is looking for a graduate assistant to work on several exciting projects within our office. As Human Resources continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly necessary to connect with our audiences through a variety of ways. Use of digital media and web-based content, in addition to traditional written publications, will be essential to effectively communicate new initiatives, policy, HR services and benefits information to the JMU community.

The graduate assistant will be a member of the Recruitment and Employment Services team.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Design professional and engaging digital media and written publications for the department, including brochures, banners, posters, emails and other marketing materials for print and web.

- Assist with creating and maintaining social media content.

- Provide writing and editing support for marketing materials.

- Create interactive media and videos to complement a variety of recruiting initiatives.

- Other duties as assigned.


- Must be a current JMU graduate student as of August 2018
- Must be able to work 20 hours per week during the semester

- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information

Preferred Qualifications:
- Students with a background in AHRD, WRTC, SMAD or graphic design

Conditions of Employment

Students may apply to a graduate assistantship prior to being accepted into a graduate program. However, to be eligible to receive an assistantship upon entry into a graduate program, the following criteria must be met:

  • The student must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program. Students who are provisionally accepted will not be eligible until they achieve conditional or unconditional acceptance into their program.

  • The students must have an official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • After receiving an assistantship, the student must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA in order to retain or reapply for the assistantship.

These are minimum criteria. Graduate program coordinators have the right to impose additional criteria if they see fit.
