Position Summary Information

General Information

James Madison University’s Facilities Management is seeking a wage (part-time) Emergency Power Technician’s Assistant for the Emergency Power Shop. This is a part-time, weekday position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibility is the maintenance of emergency lighting systems throughout campus to include monthly inspections and minimal repairs. Additional duties include assisting with the disassembly, inspection, cleaning and re-assembly of emergency diesel powered generators, diesel engine coolant systems, as well as transfer switches and load bank testing.


- It is preferable that applicants be mechanically inclined, with experience from vocational instruction or on the job training. Knowledge and experience in the electrical field would be most helpful, to include knowledge of wiring diagrams and familiarity with the use of a multi-meter.
- Applicants must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Applicants must be at least 19 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.

Condition(s) of Employment

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
