General Information

The Department of Health Professions, College of Health and Behavioral Studies, James Madison University, is seeking a visionary individual with academic leadership experience for the position of Director of the Occupational Therapy Program. The Occupational Therapy Program is one of five programs within the Department of Health Professions. The Program Director will work collaboratively with others in Athletic Training, Dietetics, Health Services Administration, and the Physician Assistant Studies program within the department, as well as with other departments and schools within the College. The successful candidate will join a strong and engaged faculty at one of the nation’s outstanding public universities.

This is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant / Associate Professor rank. The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2018.

The JMU Occupational Therapy Program is a vibrant OT program located in the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. The program has strong existing partnerships with groups both on and off campus that allow for interprofessional collaboration. Additionally, JMU has its own OT clinic on campus that provides multiple opportunities for student and faculty research and practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will manage day-to-day activities in the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program, lead program and curriculum development, oversee the ACOTE accreditation process, and develop/transition to OTD. The successful candidate will collaborate with program faculty in teaching, evaluating student performance, advising and engaging in scholarly work.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy or related area with a minimum of eight years of documented experience in OT and at least 3 years in a full time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level are both required.

A track record of excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, professional development and service to the profession are required. The successful candidate should also possess a commitment to interprofessional education and student engagement, adapt to the trends and forces facing the OT profession and have a dynamic vision for preparing OT professionals. The successful candidate will have held NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist and will be eligible for Virginia licensure.

Preferred Qualifications include documented experience in adult and geriatric practice, a research based doctorate, and continued NBCOT certification.
