General Information

The Virginia Department of Education Region 5 Training and Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) is seeking a qualified and experienced education professional to provide training and consultation related to students with disabilities’ performance in schools targeted for assistance. We are looking for a dynamic candidate who is interested in a work environment that affords ongoing personal learning opportunities, collaboration with colleagues, and an opportunity to influence educational practices.

This is a twelve-month non-tenure track position; competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with credentials and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Education Coordinator – School Improvement will respond to requests for training and technical assistance from public schools and state operated programs; coordinate and deliver professional development training; disseminate information and resources to facilitate programming; write consultation reports and newsletter articles; collaborate with agencies; and coordinate services with the Virginia Department of Education initiatives. This position requires extensive travel, including early mornings and late evenings, in Superintendents’ Region 5, which is comprised of 20 public school divisions; some statewide and overnight travel is necessary.


Candidates must minimally hold a bachelor’s degree with licensure and endorsement in special education. A master’s degree is preferred. Division or state-level experience is also preferred. Demonstration of knowledge, skills, and experience in the following areas is highly desired:
• Effective collaboration with colleagues to plan and provide individual and site-based technical assistance.
• Ability to provide training and follow-up coaching on evidence-based instructional practices, use of technology to augment instruction, and strategies for effective inclusion of students with disabilities, including universal design for learning.
• Ability to analyze data, identify needs, and collaboratively plan and provide professional development activities.
• Effective communication in both written and oral formats.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles.
• Ability to manage professional time efficiently.
• Pursuit of personal professional development and training in areas relevant to the T/TAC mission and vision.
