Position Summary Information

General Information

James Madison University (JMU) is seeking Wage (part-time) Landscape Workers on a continual basis. Shift is weekdays, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., with overtime as required for special events and inclement weather. Applications will remain active through March 5, 2018. Duties and Responsibilities

General landscape maintenance to include any of the following: weed-eating; mowing; raking; weeding; sodding; trimming; edging; mulching; leaf disposal; irrigating; pruning; grading; snow and ice removal; and spraying. Some positions require planting and maintenance of flowers, trees and shrubs.

Duties also include operating utility vehicles, performing trash cleanup and litter removal, maintenance of parking lots and roads by patching potholes and assisting in the preparation of university areas for special events.


Candidates should possess working knowledge of general landscape maintenance. Knowledge of plants, shrubs and flowers would be helpful. Candidates must be able to use manual and power tools, operate motor vehicles, tractors, trucks and various types of landscape equipment such as mowers, weed-eaters, back pack blowers, chainsaws and edgers. Candidates must also be able to follow verbal instructions, lift heavy objects up to 100 pounds and do physically demanding work for extended periods of time. Applicants must be at least 19 years old with a valid driver’s license and must have possessed a valid driver’s license for at least a total of 24 months.

Condition(s) of Employment

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
