General Information

The Center for Economic Education at James Madison University seeks an Associate Director. This is a twelve-month appointment beginning July 1, 2018. The Associate Director serves as a member of the Administrative and Professional Faculty at James Madison University to coordinate and deliver programs to aid area schools in meeting the Standards of Learning for Economics and Personal Finance. This position involves a special emphasis in keeping outreach and delivery methods up-to-date technologically.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties include:

• Coordinating and conducting workshops for K-12 teachers, for continuing education and recertification.
• Training teachers in the use of instructional technology and supporting the Commonwealth’s initiatives in online economic instruction.
• Developing materials for online distribution and delivery to teachers.
• Promoting continuing education activities through electronic means and supervising electronic registration and follow-up.
• Representing James Madison University at regular meetings of the Virginia Council on Economic Education, the National Association of Economic Educators and the (national) Council for Economic Education.

The Associate Director is primarily responsible for implementing all continuing education activities of the Center. The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Center and is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, freeing the Director to pursue the research and publication program of the Center.


Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree with coursework in education or a related field and either a current Virginia teacher’s license or the ability to become licensed in Virginia for 2018-2019. A master’s degree and experience teaching in Virginia schools are highly desirable.
