General Information

Duke Hall Gallery of Fine Art is looking for a Gallery Assistant.

Position is 10 hours/week during the spring semester (Jan 8, 2018 – May 4, 2018).

Duties and Responsibilities

The job will combine a variety of diverse working tasks, all aimed at helping run a professional contemporary art gallery. Along with monitoring the gallery to ensure the safety and security of exhibitions and visitors, the gallery assistant will work directly with the gallery director within all aspects of exhibitions, from development to production. Some invigilation (gallery sitting) hours may be required.

Daily tasks may include (but are not limited to) gallery and exhibition maintenance, patron relations, gallery security, artwork sales; and administrative tasks such as grant research and writing, website maintenance, condition reports and artist agreements.


Previous work in a gallery or fine art space is desirable, but not required.

Must be knowledgeable of SADAH and CVPA. Must communicate effectively, be punctual, reliable and able to commit to a weekly work schedule. Must qualify for Federal Work Study. Prefer current School of Art, Design and Art History major or minor but not required.

Conditions of Employment

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
