Position Summary Information

General Information

The Graduate School at James Madison University is seeking an individual who is well prepared to lead our efforts to expand regional, national, international interest in our graduate programs, and expand the diversity of our applicant pool.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Graduate Recruitment and Marketing Coordinator will:
-Help to develop and implement a university plan for graduate recruitment, with the goal of expanding and diversifying our applicant pool;
-Regularly communicate with prospective students by e-mail, on the telephone and in person;
-Represent all JMU graduate programs at graduate fairs and special events, including a few that require overnight travel;
-Consult with Graduate Program Directors and faculty to help improve program-level marketing efforts and to coordinate university-wide and department-specific initiatives;
-Manage our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and automated e-mail marketing campaign and manages our website;
-Work independently, supervise graduate and undergraduate assistants, and collaborate with JMU’s Office of Communications and Marketing;
-Regularly collaborate with, and during peak periods, directly assist our Graduate Admissions Team;
-Serve as the event coordinator for the annual Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Graduate and Professional Fair; and
-Share recruitment responsibilities with, and report to, an Associate Dean.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:
-Excellent written and oral communication skills, and outstanding interpersonal skills, that are necessary to effectively represent all JMU graduate programs to potential applicants.
-Ability to function independently as a recruiter and marketer.
-Technical skills to manage our CRM and automated e-mail marketing campaign, to manage and improve our website, contribute to our Facebook and Twitter accounts, and to assist with the development of printed marketing materials. Must have the ability to quickly learn how to effectively use new products.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in student recruitment and/or marketing.
-The ability to communicate the value of graduate education and the programs available at JMU.
-The knowledge and skills necessary to conduct brief pre-application advising with prospects to help them decide which program might be right for them.
-Strong project management skills.
-Knowledge of software used by the Graduate School such as Microsoft Office, Cascade, CollegeNET, PeopleSoft and Nolij.
-Preference will be given to candidates who are familiar with graduate education, including the value of earning a degree, the graduate-student experience, and/or the graduate admissions process.
-A bachelor’s degree is preferred, a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
