General Information

The Physician Assistant Program within the Department of Health Professions at James Madison University invites applications for a full-time instructional faculty member starting July 1, 2018. The program offers a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree, is nationally accredited by the ARC-PA, and emphasizes a strong foundation in basic sciences, integrative clinical problem-solving, and evidence-based clinical practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

This faculty member will be responsible for teaching and/or directing assigned didactic and clinical program courses within the curriculum, advising students, recruiting, orienting and evaluating guest lecturers, assisting with program advancement and innovation, participating in the ongoing applicant admissions process, and helping with the continuous evaluation and analysis of the program as required by accreditation standards and the university. Some of the areas of teaching may include, but are not limited to: pharmacology, pathophysiology, biostatistics, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis. The successful candidate will also be responsible for participating on program, department, college and university committees, and engaging in scholarly work including research and/or professional development.


Required minimum qualifications:
- If the candidate has a basic science background (pharmacology, physiology, biology, etc.)
a. Doctoral degree in the related field (PhD, PharmD, EdD, etc.)
- If a candidate is a Physician or Physician Assistant
a. Licensed Physician or Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or eligible)
b. Current board certification or NCCPA certification
c. At least 4 years of clinical experience
d. A minimum of Master’s degree for a Physician Assistant

Preferred qualifications:
- Teaching/precepting experience
- Previous experience as a faculty member
